16,031 pieces minted during a 24-hour open edition in February 2023 at $8 each. Total secondary volume has exceeded $250 million across editions and originals.
A migration protocol converts editions to originals, removing artist control and storing them trustlessly on Ethereum. Collectors can burn multiple originals to composite them into rarer pieces with fewer checks. 10,691 converted to originals or composited; 5,340 editions remain unmigrated. The Black Check — a rare composite requiring 4,096 original editions — only three are mathematically possible.
The project spawned an entire ecosystem: derivative collections, physical merchandise, gallery exhibitions, and a cultural movement around the check symbol. Checks Elements, a series of 152 monoprint and token pairs, was auctioned at Christie's during Frieze New York.
